Parallelogram Law of Vector Addition
According to parallelogram law of vector addition if two vectors act along the same point ie tail of both vectors is acting at one point and tips are outward of both vectors .
"If two vectors acting along the adjacent sides of parallelogram then the resultant is represented by the diagonal of the parallelogram passing through the same common vertex is called parallelogram law of vector addition"
fig -1 |
PQ represented the vector A
PS represents the vector B
PR represented the resultan vector R which make an angle α from vector A
NOW we draw the perpendicular RT on PQ here angle T =90*
By applying Pythagoras theorem -
1- If both vectors A and B are in same direction then angle between them is zero
Resultants R= A+B
2- If both vectors A and B are in opposite direction then angle between them is 180*
Resultants R=A-B
